Abstract

There have been frequent instances of premature failure of II and III stage compressor rotor blades of an aeroengine during vibratory fatigue testing. This had resulted in high rejection rate in the production of these blades. A detail study was undertaken for establishing the root cause of premature failure. Based on the observations and the analysis, the probable causes for the failure were identified and a few recommendations were made.
