Abstract

Evidences suggest that the tube hangers have failed by oil-ash corrosion. The high amount of sulphur and vanadium in the fuel was responsible for such corrosion. Considering the fuel grade, the material used i.e., A297 HK (25Cr-25Ni) alloy does not appear suitable for this application. Hence, it is recommended that the tube hanger material be changed to a better oil-ash corrosion resistant material such as A560 Grade (50Cr-50Ni) alloys.
