Abstract

A damaged blade of 1st stage LP compressor of an aeroengine was forwarded to the laboratory for investigation. Examination revealed a dent associated with fracture at the leading edge of the blade close to the tip. The damage was caused by foreign object hitting on the concave side of the blade. The nature of damage indicated that the foreign object was a solid soft mass and not a hard object. Evidences suggest that the foreign object could be a small bird.
