Bhaumik, SK (2003) Analysis of Failed Pinion Shaft. Project Report. National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore.
Full text not available from this repository. (Request a copy)Abstract
A pinion shaft which failed after about 6000 km of running was forwarded to the laboratory for analysis. The pinion shaft was made of EN36A steel heat treated to HV 300-440 and case carburised. Fractographic analysis carried out on the fracture surface indicated that the component had failed under static overload. There was no evidence of delayed failure like fatigue. Microstructural study and hardness measurements indicate that the shaft material conforms to the specification.
