Abstract

Vibration is an undesirable phenomenon in any structure, particularly aircraft frames. This can severely weaken the structure due to fatigue and eventually lead to failure. Active Vibration I Control (AVC) is a process by which the response of a structure, produced by a primary source of vibration, is reduced by a feed back control signal to secondary actuators. The vibration response of the structure is analyzed and the frequencies identified as being harmful to the structure are selectively suppressed. The concept of wavelets, in the controller design, is employed to actively control vibrations by selectively suppressing a identdied frequency. A single input single output digital controller is designed by implementing the Proportional-Derivative control law. Through simulations an attempt is made to evaluate the performance in terms of the amount of suppression that it can achieve, its frequency selectivity, ability to control divergence of vibration levels and its ability to avoid reflections in the frequency band of interest. The entire work is carried out using the MATLAB environment.
