Abstract

Ternary Ni-W-P alloy deposits with and without additive were prepared by autocatalytic deposition. Deposits were characterised using XRD, AF'M and DSC techniques. XRD results revealed that presence of additive in the deposit influence the structure and grain size. SElM micrographs and EDX analysis of the deposits showed that smooth deposits could be achieved will1 the incorporation of additiue. This resulted in a quaternary deposit. Studies by AFM on deposits indicated that the presence of additive has improved the thermal stability. No considerable change in hardness was noticed in both as-plated and heat treated deposition due to the inclusion of the additive. Codeposition of additive in Ni-W-P alloys could improved their corrosion resistance.
