Abstract
The present work focuses on a detailed CFD analysis of two dimensional laminar incompressible flow and heat transfer in a rectangular enclosure for which the top lid wall, maintained at a lower temperature, is either stationary 13; ( free convection ) or driven parallel to itself at a uniform speed (mixed convection) where as the other three walls are stationary, the two vertical walls are thermally insulated and the horizontal bottom wall is maintained at a higher temperature from an external heat source. The computations are carried out using an implicit second order accurate finite volume Navier Stokes solver13; based on pressure-velocity solution strategy with cartesian grid, cartesian velocities and collocated variable arrangement. The flow pattern and temperature distribution are compared to available measurement and computation data.
