The Experimental Aerodynamics Division (EAD) of NAL is recognized all over the country and abroad for the variety and quality of the experiments that is conducted. The intention of the talk is to make known all the facilities in the division and the range of the measurement techniques. High speed wind tunnels include the multi-purpose 0.3m blowdown tunnel and the unique base flow tunnel. The low speed wing tunnels include the versalite 1.5mx1.5m low speed tunnel and the 0.55m low speed wind tunnel. The newly installed jet aero-acoustic research facility is the first anechoic facility for jet-noise study in India. The 0.3m gravity fed water tunnel is very useful in flow visualization experiments. The different flow diagnostic techniques are pressure measurements using pressure transducers, electronic manometers, mechanical and electronic pressure scanners. The pressure sensitive paint technique has been developed for the first time in the country. Force measurements using a variety of sting/floor mounted strain gage balances. Velocity measurements using hot-wire anemometry and Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV). Flow field velocity measurements using 3-component particle image velocimetry (PIV). Flow density measurements with Background Oriented Schlieren (BOS) technique. Aero-acoustic noise measurements. Flow visualization techniques used are oil-flow, tuft flow, Schlieren, shear sensitive liquid crystals, chemical sublimation, laser light sheet, dye flow etc.,
