Free-stream turbulence has an important effect on the local heat transfer coefficient around turbine blades. The prediction of this effect is attempted within the framework of the k-epsilon model of turbulence. Validation of the model with data for a flat plate with imposed pressure gradients as well as turbine cascade data is13; examined. It is found that qualitatively, the model predicts the bserved trends, though there are significant differences between the data sets and the predictions. Somewhat better correlation can be obtained by numerical modification of the Reynolds number dependency of the model. With the suggested modification in the model, the13; predictions on the suction surface are encouraging and within about 30 percent of the observed values.
