The feasibility of a by-pass variable diffuser of simple concept for supersonic wind tunnels has been investigated experimentally at Mach numbers 2.5 and 3.0. With this design, minimum running stagnation pressures comparable to that obtainable with a conventional type variable diffuser were achieved. Present results indicated possibilities of further aerodynamic improvement for which simple modifications have been suggested.
