Abstract
Complex signal processing such as correlation can be readily done on a Digital computer. But more often than not, situations demand hard wired, low cost processors for specific applications. This Technical Memorandum describes a relatively inexpensive signal correlator designed and developed for a wide variety of applications. The correlator13; described uses optimally analog techniques for multiplying and storing, and digital techniques for providing incremental delays and rotation of stored values of correlation functions. The main feature of the correlator is in using only one multiplier, a couple of sample and hold circuit and relatively inexpensive passive averager/memory circuits. The correlator was, specially used in helicopter rotor vibration testing for the extraction of the frequency characteristics of the rotor. A few other possible applications of the correlator are also mentioned.
