Results of measurements of the densities of 31 glass compositions of the Ge-In-Se system are reported and discussed. In the variation of mean atomic volume, v, with average coordination number, Z, the primary features are (i) a minimum in v at Z ? 2.45 and (ii) a peak in v for Z ? 2.63 which are, respectively, due to the floppy to rigid transition and structural transition occurring in network glasses. In addition, peaks in v are seen for the GexIn5Se95-x and GexIn8Se92-x families at the compositions which lie along the GeSe2-In2Se3 tie line. The results are attributed to the coexistence in these network glasses of effects due to topology and effects due to chemical ordering, with distinct signatures of their own.
