Abstract
This report gives a brief account of the various aspects of13; dynamic stability testing in wind tunnels with the main aim of providing a background for those embarking upon the development of dynamic testing systems in wind tunnels. After a brief note on definition, classification and importance of aerodynamic derivatives, present wind tunnel techniques for the measurement of dynamic stability derivatives are briefly reviewed. Relative merits of the free and forced - oscillation techniques are dealt with in some detail. The factors that need to be considered13; in the design of a dynamic stability test rig are briefly described, highlighting the problems that may he encountered in the design and one ration of the system. Certain preventive or safety measures that are generally adopted to overcome these problems are also indicated.
