Abstract
This report describes the performance evaluation13; of a typical sing1e stage industrial centrifugal compressor. The performance of the compressor operating in air and freon was evaluated in closed circuit test facility' at different Reynolds numbers. The compressor characteristics were represented in different non dimensional flow and speed parameters. The effect of various losses on the efficiency of the compressor is discussed. The experimental results on,quot; this compressor lead to some important conclusions. Non dimensional parameters derived from similarity laws are not adequately universal to characterize the performance of compressor operating in different media.. The flow coefficient and work coefficient seem to be the best to represent compressor characteristic operating in different media. The correction, on account of .mechanical losses, to the measured power is used to obtain correct compressor efficiency.
