Abstract

This report briefly describes the development of a computer13; program to calculate the flexural critical speeds of complex rotor systems. The program is based on NASA Computer Codes CSP (Ref. 1). The program takes into account bearing stiffness, external damping provided from bearing support structures and/or squeeze fi1m dampers and coupling effects if any, in the rotor assembly. One of the features of this program is that the critical speeds of the shaft systems provided with discs producible gyroscopic effects, whirling in either forward precision or backward precision can be evaluated. This is facilitated by the switch IFB. The nature of the output is that, apart from printing the converged values of critical speeds, the details of the coordrnates required for plot of first three normalised mode shapes and for excess moment diagram are also printed out. Calcomp plotter is used to produce the first three mode shape drawings. The program is capable of accepting the in put data in SI units and other type of units the flow of the program for which is controlled by the switch ISI.
