Abstract
A simple and inexpensive opticaltechnique, suitable13; for rapid and accurateevaluation of the SMD of liquid sprays under actual operating environment, has been designed and developed. The design of t h e optical bench i s based o n t h e measurement of angular distribution of the forward scattered light intensity of a manochromatic beam of light passing through aspray , from which the SMD of the spray could be inferreddirectly. The calibration tests have confirmed that the SMD of sprays can be measured toan accuracy of +5% with this optical13; bench, with nashorttime of about 100 sec.
