Abstract
The field-consistency approach permits a fuller understanding of the problems relating to the development of simple but efficient and accurate finite element models ofshear deformable plate elements. In this paper we derive the anisotropic layered form of a recent modifiction of the well known 8- noded serendipity plate element with five degrees of freedom at each node, the inplane displacements u and v, the transverse displacement w : and section rotations x20AC;),and %. The element offered here, is free of locking and should be the simplest displacement type version of this element. Its convergence properties are insensitive to thickness ratio and degree of anisotropy.
