Abstract

An emperical relation is developed to correlate crack length versus number of cycles data generated in a fatigue crack growth test. This expression gives a good fit to the a-N data and provides a monotonically increasing crack growth rate with crack length. Crack growth rates at vanishingly short crack lengths obtained by extrapolation leads to a consistent prediction of stress dependent short crack behavior. This relation is compared with other existing techniques for a-N data processing.
