Abstract
In the developmental phase of an aircraft, usually the structural design is initially based on static strength considerations, and the resultant dynamic performance in terms of probable natural frequencies and mode shapes is assessed after the detailed design has been finalized. In such cases, the possibility of unacceptable dynamic characteristics after the design has been frozen is very real, and in many cases this may result in costly13; repetitions. It would indeed be extremely useful if one could make a reasonable assessment of the probable dynamic characteristics at the design stage without having to wait for the detailed analysis/testing. In fact it would be even more desirable to know a priori the sensitivity of the dynamic characteristics to changes in the planform geometric parameters, as this information will greatly facilitate the complex design optimization process.
