We have conducted experiments on drop generated vortex rings in which the translational velocity and the ring diameter have been measured accurately by analyzing the video recording of the ring motion. Our results reveal a hitherto unknown feature of these fields, namely, that the ring translational velocity, under certain conditions oscillates about its nominal value. Here we present data on three fluids and on a piston generated ring which show the new phenomenon
