Abstract

This paper describes the salient features of an interactive computer aided software package developed for the prediction of pilot-induced oscillation tendencies in modern high performance fighter aircraft. The techniques proposed by Ralph Smith, the Average Phase Rate Parameter criterion of Gibson, Hoh's bandwidth criterion, and the Loop Separation Parameter criterion proposed by DiDomenico are incorporated in the package for predicting the longitudinal pilot-induced oscillations. Ralph Smith's Phase Margin criterion, the Average Phase Rate Parameter, and the Time Domain and Frequency Domain criteria proposed by Mario Innocenti are implemented for predicting roll attitude pilot-induced oscillations and roll ratcheting. The crossover model of the human pilot is used for evaluating the Loop Separation Parameter and Ralph Smith criteria. The software package is based on MATLAB and runs on IBM compatible personal computers. The software package is validated using the pilot-induced oscillation prone flight configurations taken from LAHOS, HAVE, TIFS, and LATHOS databases, and typical results generated using the package are enclosed.
