Abstract
For reliable prediction of the aerodynamic characteristics, smoothing of input data is an important requirement in the vast number of algorithms which exist at the present time for the calculation of flow field past an airfoil section, whether the flow field under scrutiny is incompressible, sub critical, supercritical with/without shocks etc 0 The paper discusses the results of applying a smoothing scheme developed at Royal Aircraft Establishment, UK to the coordinate data of a supercritical section. Criteria are established,to evaluate the acceptability or otherwise of the smoothed values.
