Abstract
The large body of ex1ating work on 1nviscid.hydrodynamics deals mainly with irrotatinal flows past bodies in streams13; that are uniform far upstream. The reason for this is of course that in the case of irrotaUonal flow one is13; guaranteed the existence of a velocity potential which ssatisfies a linear equation,Laplace's equation. When the free stream has vorticity, however, this is no longer true one has in general to deal with the full non-linear euler equations.
