Abstract

The contents of this report describes the work done during the period July to13; December 1989 and is a continuation of the earlier collaborative research effort on13; the design of Model Following Controllers for the Attas Inflight Simulator. The salient13; features of the design methodology and typical omine simulation results are13; described in [1,2,3].13; Data from recent Attas flight tests (conducted during 1988 and the first half of 1989)13; indicate the presence of certain time delays in the various measurement and actuation13; segments of the fly-by-wire system. These time delays (inherent in all digital flight13; control systems) were not considered during the design of the earlier controllers and13; therefore necessiated redesign prior to validating the controllers in simulation and13; subsequently in flight. A major portion of the current effort was directed towards13; estimating the time delays in the various control loop segments and incorporating13; these estimates in the controller design process and ground simulation software.13; quot;13; The complex onboard multi-processor computing/data recording system Fig. 1 [6],13; asynchronous/autonomous operation of the individual digital measurement and13; actuation segments (for example LTN-90 Inertial Navigation System, Mil-bus Interface13; to the Actuator Drives etc.) and the limitations in the data recording used for the13; earlier flight tests restrict the accuracy of the time delay estimates. The current13; designs incorporate these rough estimates but include the improved actuator model13; dynamics obtained from flight tests.13;
