Abstract

Current trend on fault-detection and-identification is to have a combination of algorithmic procedural methods and AI techniques, This project document presents a method for monitoring the faulty sensors in aircraft electrical actuators based on two algorithmic approaches viz static' model based fault detectIon (MBFD) and parameter estimation based on on-lln recursIve least squares (RLS).13; Investigations were made on MBFD where measured variables were checked for consistency with those of the model. In the case study, owing to the wide variation of. the poles of the overall transfer function, a reduced order model was chosen to model the process.- Fault detectionquot; is also achieved by estimatinxA3; the reduced order model parametrs in the closed loop by RLS, It is found that RLS is reliable only on the addition of a PRBS dither signal to the input excitatIon. The combination of the two methods improves the fault detection probability while simultaneously reducing the false alarm probability there by providing higher confidence level in fault monitoring especially in the context of the response of a reduced order model.
