Abstract

A 3-D finite element package incorporating 8-noded and 13; 27-noded hexahedral elements for static analysis of problems in linear constrained media elasticity is developed. The package is enhanced by automated mesh generation and adaptive mesh refinement based on simple energy error norms. The expertise involved in adaptive refinement is captured in FORTRAN so as to facilitate the program to tackle problems involving stress (or strain energy) concentrations effectively. An expert system is developed in VPX SHELL for preliminary problem modelling and data preparation.
