Abstract
Aqueous slips of silicon carbide, silicon nitride and silicon have been optimised by using a simple, inexpensive method of monitoring the sedimentation height of ceramic particles dispersed in an aqueous medium as a function of pH and time of sedimentation. The pH at which the slurries show minimum sedimentation heights at various time intervals determines the state of homogeneous dispersion of the slip with minimum of viscosity and maximum solid loadings . This method of optimisation could be employed in colloidal processing operations like slip casting, slurry pressing etc
