Abstract
In this paper, the concept of cascaded EBG for an annular ring patch antenna excited by coaxial feed designed for 6.8 GHz is proposed. The bandwidth and gain obtained for the annular patch are 267 MHz and 7.3 dB respectively. The impedance bandwidth of the antenna is enhanced from 4 % to 18 % by introducing two complementary split ring resonators (CSRR) near the feed. By the introduction of CSRR, the antenna resonates at three different frequencies 6.4 GHz, 6.8 GHz and 7.3 GHz with gain 5.5 dB, 7.3 dB, and 0.2 dB. The gain at 6.8 GHz and 7.3 GHz are enhanced to 8.3 dB and 2 dB respectively using cascaded mushroom EBG with circular symmetry arranged around the patch.
