Abstract
Abstract: In this paper a novel approach for video transmission is proposed which includes protocol design over fiber channel with a point to point link used to drive display units, camera etc. The protocol is video-centric supporting real time transmission. Four different objects i.e. progressive video, interlaced video, audio and data are considered. This design is suited for applications requiring sufficient high bandwidth transmission between the two systems, to replace the low speed and copper data interface. The system transmits data with Serialiser/De-Serialiser using Gigabit Transceiver Port (GTP) via optical transceiver to support applications requiring high bandwidth. This is employed to achieve fast and flexible data processing capabilities which are the crucial requirements in any avionics system. The proposed protocol supports any video resolution; example a 1400×1050 RGB video frame requires 265M bytes/sec of data transfer. Adding the protocol overhead and blanking time, a standard link rate of 3.1875Gbps is required and is achieved by SP605 FPGA through Small-Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) transceiver in the proposed implementation.
