Abstract

The nature of cracks in the third stage compressor blades of an aeroengine are investigated. The cracks are identified as due to fatigue. While the exact cause for the fatigue crack initiation could not be established, corrosion/stress corrosion cracking as crack initiating factors are ruled out .
