Abstract

A portable wireless data acquisition system was developed to acquire the unsteady pressure data in the 1.2 m wind tunnel .As the metallic test section of the wind tunnel attenuates the wireless signals heavily, different methods were used to transmit the data from the model cart to the control room wirelessly, and receive by a Laptop computer. The acquisition and processing programs were developed in LabVIEW. Even though the system is capable of acquiring signals of 8 channels simultaneously up to 20 KHz, as part of the system validation, unsteady pressure data up to 1 kHz from two channels on a 10 cone model were acquired in the wind tunnel in the Mach number range of 0.7 to 4.0. As there was a requirement to acquire signals at two different sampling rates at the same time, the signals up to 1 kHz were acquired from wireless system (WLS) and up to 40 kHz from hardwired system (HFDAQ); the latter data were reduced to compare data from both the systems up to 1 kHz. The comparisons were excellent, with the WLS showing improved signal to noise ratio (SNR) up to about 15dB.
