Abstract

A conveyor-type microwave cure equipment was purchased from M/s. IR Technology Services Bangalore (Indian representatives of M/S. Linn High Therm, Germany), and its installation and commissioning was carried out at the Raw Material Monitoring Lab, First floor, FRP Division. The equipment received as per our specifications, required some minor modifications, which was carried out by the supplier to our satisfaction. The equipment was installed and commissioned successfully by July 31st, 2006. This novel cure equipment has been procured for establishment and development of rapid, radiation cure techniques for aerospace composite components at the Division. Preliminary trials were initiated to optimize the cure schedules of 3-4 mm thick glass-epoxy composte laminates, -15mm thick laminate, sandwich specimen and a curved profile of a section of the Jaguar Nose cone Radome. This report gives the details of the equipment, acceptance tests conducted and the trial runs with cure profiles of the samples listed above.
