During dis-assembly of an aeroengine, discolouration and foreign metal deposition were observed on HPT vanes. Three pairs of such vanes were sent to the laboratory for investigation. Examination revealed deposition of molten material and heat effects on the airfoils near the leading edge. Fluorescent dye penetrant test revealed surface cracks in the vanes near the trailing edge. The findings are summarized in this report.
