Abstract

A fractured M2 screw of a brake parachute actuator was sent to the laboratory for analyzing the cause of failure. Fractographic study showed that the screw had failed by torsional overload. As understood from the function of the screw, it appears that over-tightening of the screw was responsible for the failure.
