A set of 4 failed nozzles was sent along with a set of 4 nozzles from the adjacent valve of a steam turbine engine for a comparative study. Analysis showed that both the failed nozzles and the ones from the adjacent valve conform to the specification with regard to chemical composition and hardness. The microstructure of all the nozzles was found to be identical.
