Abstract

Examination revealed that the rivets on the sides of the bracket have failed by shear while the rivets on the face have failed under tensile overload. Shearing direction suggests that the bracket has experienced excessive load in an oblique direction with respect to the axis. The reason for excessive load in this direction needs to be established. There were no evidences of progressive failure like fatigue
