Abstract

Subsequent to the investigation of failed pitch change rod of a helicopter (NAL report No. MT-FA-989-05-2006), two more pitch change rods of the same batch were forwarded to the laboratory to check whether or not there was corrosion on the internal surface. Examination revealed onset of corrosion in both the rods. Pitting was identified as the predominant mechanism of corrosion.
