Abstract

Evidences show that the damages on the airfoil were caused due to foreign object impact on the concave surface of the airfoil. Nature of damages suggests that the blade was hit by a soft, solid mass. Evidences do not suggest impact with metallic material and/or pebbles. The smeared material in and around the damaged region was found to be rich in ‘C’ and ‘O’ suggesting that the damage could be due to bird-hit.
