In connection with the accident investigation of an aircraft, deposits/sediment collected from the main fuel pump housing was forwarded to this laboratory for analysis. Compositional analysis of the residue was carried by energy dispersive X-ray analyzer attached to a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results obtained indicate that the deposits were rich in carbon (C), oxygen (O), aluminium (Al) and silicon (Si). Analysis suggests that the deposits observed would have been intruded into the main fuel pump housing after the impact of the aircraft onto the ground.
