Abstract

The wreckage of a helicopter which met with an accident on September 02, 2009 was examined. General examination of the wreckage suggests that the helicopter had crashed with the ground under high impact forces. Study indicates that prior to the impact, the helicopter descent was steep and it had forward motion. It is believed that the main rotor and tail rotor blades had fragmented due to impact with the trees and the plants just prior to the impact of the helicopter with the ground. During the impact, the tail boom of the helicopter had got separated followed by cabin and cockpit. Wreckage distribution and burn marks at the accident site (as seen in the photographs provided) suggest that there was post accident fire, probably leading to explosion in the fuel tanks resulting in spreading of burning debris all around.
