Abstract

One of the failed tubes used in a vapour absorption machine was sent to the laboratory for analysis. The tubes were found to have numerous pinholes. Examination revealed that the pinholes formed due to crevice corrosion from the inner surface of the tube. Analysis showed that deposition of iron oxide particles on the inner surface of the tube resulted in crevice corrosion leading to failure of the tubes.
