Abstract

T3-40 Profile blades along with the cascade side plates were prepared for the evaluation of secondary loss. The secondary loss data for this profile was generated by undertaking simulated tests in a subsonic cascade tunnel with air as the working medium.The experiments were conducted over a wide range of deflection(60 degree to 130 degree) and velocity ratios(0.25 to 0.75) by varying the stagger and fluid inlet angles for one pitch to chord ratio.The effect of fluid inlet angle and stagger on the secondary loss was studied in detail.The variation of Secondary loss with aspect ratio was indirectly predicted for various fluid inlet angles and staggers.The variation of secondary loss with deflection and velocity ratio has been evaluated.The results obtained are very useful in understanding the flow behaviour near the end walls and serve as input parameter for the evaluation of stage efficiency.The work was carried out at the propulsion division of N.A.L. as a sponsored research project form BHEL corporate R & D unit.
