Abstract

A new active fastener concept has been developed. The active fastener may be employed to suppress the structural vibrations at joints and restrict them at the source level. In the present design, the active fasteners have been developed with the help of PZT stack actuators and patch sensors. Integration of these 'active' elements onto the nut-bolt assembly requires development of a casing. Two designs are proposed, each subcategorized as two design options. Finite element models are made in ABAQUS. Static and coupled electro-mechanical analysis of the designs are carried out in order to test their functionality at elementary level.
