    Abstract

    In this paper we describe the development of a PC based data acquisition system for high resolution measurement of resistivity and absolute thermopower (TEP) of conducting solids at high pressures. The main feature of this sys-13; tem is the software PID control of temperature with stabilities of the order of f 0.02xB0;C in the truly hydrostatic teflon thermopower cell (temperature range13; O-3W0C) and f 0.loC in the quasi-hydrostatic high pressure -high temperature ceIl(temperature range O-lOOOxB0;C). A significant increase in the signal to noise ratio has been achieved by adopting real time digital filtering of the data.Linear rate of heating of the sample which is software selectable makes this system useful for other studies such as high pressure DTA.
