Abstract
Results of measurements of the thermal expansion coefficient(from50C to the softening temperature)are reported for eight glass compositions of the Ge-Se-Te system. For (GeSe2)100-2xSexTex glasses,an increase of the glass transition temperature(Tg)and of a (the change in thermal expansion coefficient, a during glass transition)is seen with decreasing SeTe content.For(GeSe2)23.33Se30-Te glasses,a Tg and a are invariant with composition. The result obtained presently, when examined along with those obtained for other chalcogenide glasses, indicate that chalcogenide glasses are not necessarily in a stage of is a free volume during glass transition.values ranging from 0.024 to 0.67 are obtained for free volume of some chalcogenide glasses
