Discipline where multigrid methods have found extensive13; applications with remarkable success is computational fluid dynamics.The impact of this method on the practical use of various codes based on highly nonlinear differential equations describing the complexity of the fluid flow phenomena has been revolutionary. It is not very13; long ago that the Navier-Stokes solutions of simple problems took 100 hours and more of CPU time.The independent tremendous revolution taking place in the area of faster chips, on one hand, and the development in multigrid methods, on the other,have brought even the 3-D Navier-Stokes solutions for full aircraft configuration on the threshold of routine computation. Focus will be on the application of multigrid methods to a couple of specific problems, although some essential elements of background are presented.
