Abstract

The temporal evolution of an axisymmetric wake at a large-scale Reynolds number 1500 is simulated by directly solving the unsteady three-dimensional Navier Stokes equations, using a spectral scheme. It is shown that the initial development of the simulated wake is qualitatively similar to what is known from laboratory studies.
