Abstract
A review of some appropriate and hybrid technology wind pumps is presented. A case is made in favour of sizable low cost, low weight rotor coupled with rotary pumps. Influence of month wise distribution of wind speed in three regions in providing water for irrigation using windpumps is briefly discussed. comparative cost estimates for wind pumps are provided along with a few other water pumping devices based on renewable and non-renewable alternatives
