Abstract

This paper describes the initial phase of a research program to investigate experimentally and analytically, heat transfer in model gas turbine cascades with cooling. An experimental technique for the determination of local convective heat transfer coefficient around a blade is developed, using electrical resistance heating of the blade surface to produce a known heat flux. The analytical prediction procedure is based on a finite difference solution technique for 2D parabolic flows developed by Patankar and Spalding. The implication of two turbulence models based on the mixing length approach are discussed in the light of comparison with present measurements. Suggestions for future work in this field are outlined.
