Abstract

A general solution for the symmetric bending stress distribution at the tip of a crack in a plate with allowance for shear deformation has been developed within the framework of the Reissner theory of plate bending. The solution uses polar coordinates at the crack tip and includes a whole class of particular solutions satisfying all three boundary conditions along the crack. The solution is easily adaptable to numerical and computer oriented methods of analysis such as collocation and hybrid finite element techniques.
